With its sweet, luscious orange fruit, it’s no wonder Christopher Columbus called papaya, “the fruit of the angels.” But there’s more to this fruit than just its beautiful color and flavor — it’s also full of vitamins and nutrients. Papayas are incredible sources of carotenes, vitamin C and flavonoids; the B vitamins, folate and pantothenic acid; and the minerals, potassium, copper, and magnesium; and fiber. Together, these nutrients support cardiovascular and digestive health and offer protection against colon cancer, heart disease, macular degeneration and rheumatoid arthritis.

The papaya is grown in subtropical climates like Mali, where it is a rich source of nutrition and income. Once considered an exotic fruit, papayas can now be found in most U.S. markets year-round. We hope this recipe will inspire you to bring this fruit — and all of its benefits — into your diet.
