Margaret Summerfield earned a BS in Science Education from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and then taught high school science in the Milwaukee School System for 10 years while getting her Masters and PhD in Biological Sciences. Her research focus and dissertation was on the distribution and productivity of the aquatic plants in three bays of Lake Michigan.
Summerfield taught at an international school in New Mexico that offered the International Baccalaureate (IB) program. This is a two year broad based, community service stressed program. She taught IB Biology and Environmental System for 15 years. While at the UWC she participated in community service projects in New Mexico and Mexico; student field plant identification; development of and teaching a course in Conflict Resolution; summer teacher training workshops; lead the school self-evaluation required for North Central certification.
Summerfield is the owner of a small business, M-R Consultants (science education) and spends several weeks with 7-8th graders in a California school. She has traveled to a number of countries to learn about and photograph their various environments. The photos are used in interactive classes and workshops.
